Reem Acra’s vision for the forthcoming Spring was inspired by artist Arron Young. Yong’s work often incorporates a performance element that is often dangerous. His most notable work involved a motorcycle speeding the screeching and circular pattern created by this act was transformed into a painting. Acra brought the same sense of rebellion and excitement to her collection. Several of the pieces held embellishments resembling the treads of a speeding tire while others simply radiated movement and power. The runway show during New York’s fashion week was like a great race, starting slowly with shift dresses and sportswear before erupting in an explosion of intricate evening gowns.
Though Spring is normally a time to steer clear of black, Acra presented a rebellious collection, featuring an assortment of darkly hued pieces. One of our favorite looks was this mono chromatic ensemble of cut work leather jacket and white-hot pant and blouse.
In addition to basic black and white shades of fiery red were also employed. This stunning red gown featured sheer side panels to show off those dangerous curves.
Though close fitting dresses occupied much of the runway for this showing spectators were also treated to some of Acra’s amazing full ball gowns. We adored this pinks embellished masterpiece. This stark comparison to the reds and blacks of the rest is the collection is a brilliant testament to Acra’s skill and commitment to femininity.
