Fashion Week kicked off with one of the most fun-to-watch shows of the season. Red Dress Collection started the festivities with a star-studded line up of beautiful women in equally beautiful attire. In keeping with the organization’s commitment to highlighting inspiring women from all age ranges, notoriety, and sizes, this year’s models did not disappoint. Patti Labelle, Linda Gray, and Julianne Hough were just a few who lent their talents to the event.
Every show has its theme and this year the show was dedicated to and inspired by the legendary Lucille Ball. Lucy was a pioneer in television who played by her own rules. She would have been 100 years old this year had she not succumbed to a heart-related illness. The show began with a video clip of Lucy and then hubby Desi Arnaz’s PSA on heart health, followed by current statistics. Though the atmosphere was light and jovial, not unlike the former comedienne, it was important to remember that the purpose of the evening was to provide awareness of heart disease and ways to prevent it. As in years past several high-end and popular design houses provided the gowns for the show. This year’s designer line-up included:
Pea In The Pod– Laila Ali and her baby bump sashayed across the stage with ease in this lovely deep red draped gown. Ali showed no signs of curbing her sass as she showed off her flirty strut.
Badgley Mischka— I’m sure the Hills had their eyes on the lovely Ms Patridge, who shimmered and shone in this sequined one shoulder gown. The color worked beautifully against her tanned skin and the sexy slit added some sex appeal.
Catherine Malandrino— Cover Girl’s newest spokes model Dania Ramirez wowed in this stunning appliqued Malandrino dress. Her swept back hair and scarlet pout were perfect accents to this stunning dress.
Donna Karan– America’s BFF Gayle King flaunted her curves in this knit gown. The bright pink color again worked well with Gayle’s infamous copper coif.
Guests were also treated to a live performance from Natasha Bedingfield, who was there courtesy of show sponsor diet coke. All in all, the women were regal and exuded confidence poise and of course, heart.
