Epitomizing the phrase “One Fashionista’s out, is another Fashionista’s in”, Paper Magazine teamed up with Housing Works Gramercy Thrift Shop, to host a charitable shopping event. Housing Works is the largest community-based AIDS service organization in the United States. Since 1990, they have provided lifesaving services to more than 20,000 homeless and low-income New Yorkers living with HIV and AIDS. This cause alone brought the New York elite out into the grey skies and rain for shopping, cocktails and music by Andrew and Andrew. The racks were full of vintage pieces brought back to life. Sequined tops for $5.00, Studded belts for $3.00; it was a recessionista’s dream. Paper Editorial Director Mickey Boardman says, “We love Housing Works because they turn shopping into doing a good deed!” Papermag.com is launching the summer edition of their “Editor Picks”, shopping event series and are hand picking Housing Works looks to be featured, additionally styling their windows. It’s another brilliant collaboration between two causes, making this world a better place, yet stylishly not breaking the bank to do it!
