Fashion is no exception to the changing times or the changing vernacular of our buzzing generation.
The Spring/Summer 2011 line Organic by John Patrick is just that; Organic.
The line boasts gauzy, breezy pieces that drape effortlessly over the body. It’s no wonder that these pieces seem to fall in the exact right places as the silhouettes suggest cottons, linens and silks, natural fibers that are both functional and beautiful.
The color palette was chosen wisely to reflect the season; pale yellows, crisp whites, soft blues and prints that mimic the exquisite petals of spring and summer.
Patrick demonstrates quite a range in his pieces; this collection is a full ensemble with everything from pale yellow pencil skirts paired with a drapey, sleeveless print blouse to wide leg, high waisted billowing white pants.
If it’s not the color scheme that will catch your eye, the textures of this line will make you want to experience it with each sensory perception you possess. The sheer white long sleeve t-shirt is certainly piece that can be worn alone (quite bravely) or layered with many of the pieces, namely the teal velour blazer or take the cream eyelet lace blouse paired with the blush pink cardigan and high wasted, gauzy shorts.
There’s just the right amount of skin showing in this collection; not too little to make it austere and not too much to make it tasteless. The moderation of length shows careful consideration on the designers part; these pieces would not flow right if the length wasn’t perfect and complimentary to the entire ensemble.
This designer fully utilizes layering in all of his pieces yet manages to allude that these pieces can be worn alone and be as beautiful.
Often times on the runway or in lookbooks, models will be wear towering heels to further emphasize the pieces they are selling. Here in Patrick’s spread, the models look comfortable yet chic wearing Oxfords. Oxfords have been popping up in woman’s fashion in the last year and a half and have had many iterations to reflect the adaptive taste of their wearers. Urbanites are big fans of the Oxfords as they are comfortable and great for extensive city traipsing but still have a stylistic impact in their overall fashion statement. ย I get the sense that these pieces are versatile as at first glance my brain zoomed through a catalog of accessories that could be paired with them. I know I have a pair of neutral, chunky wood wedge heels that would work well with this entire collection.
Each of these pieces can be dressed up and down. Talk about recycling! A girl can get a lot of mileage out of one of these pieces! One could easily wear an ensemble to the office and by simply removing a layer, be ready for an evening out sipping sangria in the garden of her favorite cafe. I wouldn’t venture to say that all of these pieces are resort wear but the large sunhat and a gauzy mini cardigan and high waisted wide leg pants, all in white, would be an ideal outfit for a beach getaway (Miami anyone!?).
John Patrick successfully embodies the spirit of verve of Spring in this collection. His choice in color, texture and material reflect the name of the line. Spring is soft, beautiful, unencumbered and flows with easy and is exactly what Patrick has shown us with this line.
Spring is renewal. Spring is Organic.
