After a mediocre intro last summer, New York City finally got it right this time around, with the continuation of #NYMD for Men’s Fashion Week. Industria Superstudios in the Meatpacking neighborhood set the scene for a series of collections targeted at fashion-forward men across the globe.
At a quick glance, HVRMINN’s visual transported us straight into the 1940’s with a mash-up of military uniforms and tailored gentlemen’s attire. The only thing missing was the sound of the iconic World War II song, “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” by The Andrews Sisters, playing in the background.
However, designer Minn Hur pulled the new collection into the modern era by adding a couple of details that are generally found in women’s clothing aesthetics – lightweight layering pieces over suits and jackets that are cinched at the waist – and surprisingly, it worked.
Highlights from the collection include A sleeveless army green windbreaker vest with cut-outs across the back paired with a navy single-breast suit; a cropped camel suede jacket paired over a heather grey plaid two-piece suit; and a navy single-breast suit cinched at the waist paired with a crisp white shirt and tie combo.
Coats also stood out during the presentation – most notably, an eggplant hued raincoat.
The best look of the entire collection was one of the more casual pairings – a dark charcoal jacket and pants tailored to mimic a jogger jean. Every man should own this look.
Although some of the HVRMINN fall ’16 RTW looks are a bit too military-chic, several pieces can easily help your wardrobe stylishly transition forward.
My only concern about New York Fashion Week: Men’s is that the series of presentations (as a collective) may be trying to take itself too seriously. Lighten up….”Zoolander 2” will be out soon to guide you.
