The first-ever New York Fashion Week: Men’s saw a wide range of grooming and hairstyles, from completely clean-shaven to full beards and long hair. The Art of Shaving has you covered with tips on how to achieve three top trends we saw this season. Take Notes!
Trend #1: The Perfect Clean-Shave:
An overwhelming 80% of models at #NYFWM sported a classic, completely clean-shaven look. To achieve the perfect clean-shave like the models at Thom Browne and Calvin Klein, use the Art of Shaving’s new Morris Park Collection Razor and 4 Elements of the Perfect Shave: Prepare, Lather Up!, Shave and Moisturize, for optimal results while helping against ingrown hairs, razor burn, and nicks & cuts.
Master Barber Tip: Begin with Pre-Shave Oil to soften the beard and protect skin from irritation. Create a lather using Shaving Cream and a Shaving Brush made of badger hair. Shave with the grain, not against it, as shaving against the grain can cause ingrown hair and razor burn. Finish by applying a non-alcoholic After-Shave Balm to keep skin soothed and refreshed. For an elevated shave, use a razor with a weighted handle, which helps alleviate the pressure placed on the skin during shaving, such as the Morris Park Collection alongside the 4 Elements.
Trend #2: Short Scruff:
Scruff was once considered the lazy man’s fashion, but is now making a strong fashion statement, as evident on runways such as Grungy Gentleman and Michael Bastian. In fact, over a hundred models at #NYFWM (roughly 15% of them) sported scruff, making it the 2nd most popular facial hair style on the runway.
Master Barber Tip: Use a pair of fine end scissors to keep facial hair even and neat. Apply The Art of Shaving Beard Oil to soothe skin and tame flyaways, and Moustache Wax to style facial hair or cover up any patches, combing product into hair in the direction of the growth pattern. Finally, remember to keep the neckline clean and neat.
Trend #3: The Sophisticated Man-Bun:
From celebrities like Jared Leto to the runway at Rochambeau, the man-bun is popping up everywhere. Featuring a deep side-part in the front and a sleek bun in the back, the man-buns at Fashion Week: Men’s gave models a trendy yet sophisticated runway look.
