Brother and sister design duo of Nicholas K presented a rather unique spring collection. The Spring 2016 show opened with a white parachute trench and then followed with a white nylon windbreaker pullover and pant combo. For this spring collection, they were inspired by the occupations of their brother who was a NAVY Seal and father who was a flight surgeon. They appropriately titled their collection, “Terminal Velocity.” This collection of 50 looks featured silk maxi dresses, dip-dyed poncho’s, and lightweight denim dresses and joggers.
A color palette of white, camel, and charcoal gray served as a backdrop for suede jackets, tops, and shawls. What was even more unique than the clothes, were the accessories. Gold finger cuffs, over-sized rope necklaces, and arm length cuffs that looked more like a gold arm cast, served as edgy accents to each look. I couldn’t help but to get a middle eastern style meets top gun kind of vibe from the collection due to the bevy of flight suits and over-sized shawls and ponchos. The collection offered looks that would be perfect for international travel. As for versatility, I don’t see all the pieces being something that you can wear on a daily basis. There was a little overload on some of the nylon looks, but for sure anyone would be able to pull off the cross over tops, denim jumpsuits, suede trench coats, and belted maxis.
