JSD: What was the process of creating the collection?
John Bartlett: I have a wonderful team that I work with, we start with fabrics. It’s like a puzzle, everything starts coming together. I pull images and look at movies. I love the beginning and the end. The beginning, conceptualizing and in the end, when I have all of the clothes together.
JSD: What inspired the Spring 2010 collection?
John Bartlett: The inspiration is very nautical, I was really inspired by the kids from New York Prep (The Bravo Show). I like their casual and classic look. I was also inspired by the film White Squall, which I love. The film was very 60s, the guys look beautiful, and it was on a boat. Those were some of the things I looked to for inspiration. On top of that, this brand is lots of colors and patterns, and then mixing the two.
JSD: What is the price range for some of the pieces?
John Bartlett: A big part of the inspiration is the price point. Everything is under $100, except for the blazers which are $149.
JSD: Who would be your target audience for the Spring season?
John Bartlett: Its a very big department store brand, but I would say a young urban dad.
JSD: What should every man invest in for Spring?
John Bartlett: Plaid shorts!
