It was an early Thursday morning. Most New Yorkers would typically be wrapping up their work commute, bagel and coffee in hand. But last Thursday morning was different. New Yorkers dumped their bagels and coffee to host New York’s Fashion Week.

Though sometimes feeling simplistic, Christopher and Nicholas enhance their designs with uses of layering and drapery technique. From the first look until the final, each model walked down the runway with a sometimes disheveled look that happened to be well constructed and well executed. Upon first site though, the looks often feel sloppy and far too undone, but the attention to the details within the garments help propel the collection.
The color palette also keeps this collection alive. While white, black, and green doesn’t necessarily scream Spring or Summer, these colors really evolve into the designs. It is as though these colors are meant for these specific designs. The white within the silk dress makes it flow and feel soft. The green helps provide that warrior feel. And finally, the use of black providing a chic quality to the collection, especially found within the high-low dress paired with the oversized no-closure jacket. The colors combine to contradict, yet complement each other.
This year’s collection from Nicholas K is reminiscent to its previous S/S looks, but with more attention to detail and more imaginative styling. The looks may have to grow on you before you believe they were the first to hit the Mercedes-Benz sponsored runways. But, there is no doubt that designers Christopher and Nicholas woke New York up with their garments.
