As someone who has been following this series since the very beginning, I have mixed emotions. I am pleased with the final movie, more than pleased actually, but at the same time I am saddened that it’s over. Since I picked up Twilight, the first book in the Twilight Saga, I have been living in an alternate universe. I have been following the lives of fictional characters and becoming more and more attached as I turned each page. It’s finally starting to hit me that there will be no more page turning or midnight screenings. It’s bittersweet, but boy oh boy what a way for the saga to go out!
Breaking Dawn Part 2 which was directed by Bill Condon, who also directed Breaking Dawn Part 1, opened up with Bella going on her first hunt with Edward after being transformed into her stronger, faster, and very immortal vampire self. She has given birth to her daughter Renesmee and she is now adjusting to her life as Edward’s equal. It was refreshing to see how they portrayed Bella’s transformation; it was nice to see her be more aggressive and sure of herself. The new Bella interacted with Edward, Renesmee, Jacob, the Cullen’s, other Vampire covens, and the Volturi. One of her biggest challenges was interacting with her dad Charlie, but after years of watching the Cullen’s integrate themselves into society, she had an abundance of examples to pull from when it came to pretending to be a regular old human.
The majority of the movie revolved around the Cullen’s trying to find allies who would stand witness with them as they met with the Volturi to prove that Renesmee was not an immortal child and that Edward and Bella had not committed any crimes. During the film, we got to meet a variety of vampires from different parts of the world. Some were blessed with unique abilities that would prove to be very valuable throughout the duration of the film. It was amazing to see things that were described on paper brought to life on screen. My expectations were definitely exceeded. I experienced a wide range of emotions while watching this film. What stood out to me were the things I wasn’t expecting. I appreciate the fact that the film gave me more than what I bargained for.
The ending of this movie was one word…EPIC. There is so much I want to say but everyone who has been following this saga from the beginning deserves to see it for themselves. I promise you Breaking Dawn Part 2 was well worth the wait. This was by far my favorite film of the Twilight Saga installments. Go check it out this Friday (November 16th, 2012) as it opens in theaters nationwide.
