Mild-mannered teenager Peter Parker discovers a few of his deceased father’s items and embarks on a journey to discover more about his mysterious parents and ultimately himself. His journey leads him to Os-Corp where he is bitten by a genetically altered spider that leaves him with superhuman powers and with far more questions than answers. We are all quite familiar with the Spiderman and his powers. High web-slinging, spidey senses, and agility have entertained millions in many forms. In this version, director Marc Webb and a team of writers dig deeper into the story providing a closer look at the man behind the web. Unlike the 2002 movie starring Tobey McGuire and Kirsten Dunst, you don’t get the sped up version of events. The story takes its sweet time building up, allowing the audience to get to know Parker beyond the spandex. Prepare to be introduced to a new set of characters, including a giant lizard. This is not a sequel or prequel it is a glimpse into the world of the Spider-man with a fresh pair of eyes. Do not go to this film expecting a simple re-do of Sam Raimi’s movie. Go instead with a clear mind and prepare for an action-packed thrill ride with heart. In addition to the revamped story line, this edition is also available in Imax and 3D. The fight scenes, flying and web slinging are amazing in 3D, well worth the additional cost. Foul language is kept to a minimum the film is suitable for ages 5 and up. Forget everything you thought you knew about Spider-man, and allow Webb’s adaptation to win you over. Funny emotional and action-packed this could quite easily be the best Spider-Man yet. Tobey who?
