Tammy (McCarthy) is having the worst day ever. She hits a deer, wrecks her car and loses her job only to come home and find her husband cheating with the neighbor. After such a horrible day Tammy decides to pack up and leave, only she has no money. Thankfully her wise-cracking hard drinking granny (Sarandon) has a wad of cash and packed bag ready to go. The unlikely pair set off on a wild adventure leaving their small town in the rearview. The crazy duo gets into more than their fair share of mischief and manage to meet some interesting characters along the way. McCarthy is a revelation as a female lead with a talent for physical comedy. You can expect to see her jumping falling and flailing in a wide range of zany stunts throughout the film. One of the funniest moments of the film is watching McCarthy try to jump over a counter to rob a burger joint. Though ripe with humor the film has an abundance of heart. Though there is an abundance of drinking and swearing it is safe to take the kiddies to this one, most of the inappropriate jokes will go right over their heads. Preview audience gave the film mixed reviews, most liked the film but others found it lacking. I thoroughly enjoyed the film, it is a cute summer movie and a fun departure from the usual explosive-laden blockbusters of the season. If you are a fan of McCarthy you will love her in this she is her usual hilarious self from start to finish. Even if you don’t like her its a fun film with a great message of hope and redemption: Sometimes you have to lose everything you have to finally find exactly what you need.
