Back in 1947 Scientist and avid explorer, Thor Heyerdahl set out on a quest to prove that despite limited resources and technology ancient South American’s were the first to colonize Polynesia. His journey sent him across thousands of miles of unpredictable ocean on a raft. With only his small crew of companions, Heyerdahl went on a legendary expedition that cemented his belief in the ocean as a passageway between the world’s people and not an insurmountable barrier.
In the dramatized version to be released this Spring the voyage is one which requires strength and heart. Viewers will find themselves in awe of the many perils faced by the fearless crew. From shark attacks to treacherous storms the imagery is magnificent. At times during the film, you almost feel as though you too are on the voyage. The camera zooms in and out bobbing in rhythm with the waves creating an effect that even 3D couldn’t replicate. Though there are some bloody scenes the violence is at a minimum. This is a suitable film for children age 10 and up as it will provide an interesting lesson in history. Aside from its academic aspects, the action-packed voyage is more than enough to keep moviegoers satisfied.
Kon-Tiki will be released on April 26th
