Saved from slavery by a German bounty hunter Django (Foxx) learns the trade and uses his new abilities to track the men who bought his wife. His quest leads him on a wild chase through the south where he exacts his vengeance on all who dare cross his path. With the help of his German savior, Django goes on the trip of a lifetime risking life limb and his soul all to reclaim his lost love. Quentin Tarantino, director of several pulp classics delves once more into a bygone movie house genre, the spaghetti western. Though most westerns rarely give a glimpse of slavery this cinematic masterpiece combines the civil war era and westerns for a violent epic. It took over a decade for this film to make it to the silver screen and it is well worth the wait. Though enjoyable from start to climactic end the film does contain scenes that may be difficult to watch. Tarantino shows no mercy in his depiction of the suffering and cruelty of slave masters in the old south. The violence depicted is often realistic and bloody, not for the faint of heart. Along with severe violence, patrons should also be aware of very strong language. Racial slurs and profanity pepper nearly every sentence. Blood lust and vulgarity aside the nearly three hour run time absolutely fly by, from scene to scene there is never a dull moment. The action begins in the first ten minutes and never lets up. If you love action-adventure this is one film you simply can not miss!
Django Unchained will be in theaters on December 25th, 2012
