Overall: A funny feel good movie with solid writing and brilliant performances. Leave the kids under 13 at home. This is a perfect date movie!Cal Weaver (Steve Carell) has the perfect life, kids a beautiful wife of 25 years, and a beautiful home. His American dream becomes a nightmare when the only woman he’s ever loved asks for a divorce. With his entire world turned upside down Cal finds himself the reluctant pupil of master playboy Jacob (Ryan Gosling) who helps him rediscover his confidence in an effort to reclaim his life. Funny and heartfelt the movie examines the heartbreaking, soul crushing and often hilarious things we go through in our quest for love. One of the funniest scenes finds Cal at a health club with a very naked Jacob trying to impart wisdom, trust me you have to see it to believe it.
Despite the hilarity of the film there are quite a few dramatic scenes which promote thought and a healthy dialogue about relationships and dating. The film follows three distinct and familiar scenarios, each one with an unexpected twist in the end that ties everything together. Well thought out and written the movie is an enjoyable ride from start to finish. Even the most reluctant romantic comedy viewer will be hard-pressed to to find a single thing not to love about this movie. The subject matter though lighthearted, isn’t for children this movie is the perfect excuse to find a sitter grab you honey and prepare for laughs.
Crazy Stupid Love is in theaters now!
