The first installment of the American Pie franchise debuted back in 1999. At its core beyond the raunchy sex scenes and toilet humor the American Pie series has always been about coming of age. Having started the series as high school seniors on the cusp of adulthood it is only fitting that some 13 years later we revisit the loveable crew as adults, settled into their lives and reuniting for their high school reunion. The reunion which brings the crew together for yet another weekend of hijinks and insanity also brings to light the strain of growing older and growing apart from the old friends you knew.
Fans of the original “Pie” will enjoy some familiar references as well as cameos from some of their favorite characters. This final installment provides some much-needed insight into the lives of our favorite group of misfits, who despite having grown into responsible adults still retain much of their teenage personalities. As expected this isn’t a movie for the kiddies, though much more mature in subject matter it hasn’t grown up so much that the raunchy sex crazed antics are omitted. Though there are fewer sex and drug references than the first, there is some nudity, including a full frontal shot from one of the main characters (Can you guess who?). This hilarious film is perfect for a night out with friends, or a great date night. Why not take a break from the fluff and fantasy flooding theaters and enjoy a slice of comedy heaven? American Reunion will be in theaters Friday April 6, 2012
