Jenko (Tatum) and Schmidt (Hill) are back on the job as undercover officers but this time around they are masquerading as college students. Throughout the film there are many not so subtle references to the original format as well as the curse of the sequel. Many of the jokes are recycled from the first film, but still funny. There is even reference to yet another installment in the series. In one of the early scenes as the detectives enter 22 Jump Street for the first time you catch a glimpse of a sign announcing the construction of 23 jump street in 2016. This buddy comedy serves up laugh after laugh and the dynamic duo of Hill and Tatum truly ham it up for the cameras. As expected every college cliché is magnified and every lead a dead end. There’s even a literal “red herring”. Though the satire is reminiscent of the old Naked Gun movies it is much smarter and oddly realistic. If you enjoyed the first movie you will love the sequel, it’s essentially the same story with just enough twists and humor to keep it interesting.
