I love seeing collections that are down to earth and not so over the top. Monika Chiang’s spring collection not only provided realistic looks but it had a downtown girl flair that was equal parts cool and chic. I can just imagine myself strolling Soho in NYC rocking the gorgeous pleated green floor-length pants or hanging out with the girls in the white sleeveless biker vest that was part of her spring 2013 collection. Monika’s aesthetic is sporty and edgy and for next season she added a little sexiness with high-slit skirts and cropped tops. The sporty chic look is not one that everyone can pull off but Monika has designed a collection that can fit into any type of lifestyle. Pops of colors like neon orange and leprechaun green gave the collection its spring appeal since the rest of the color palette was made up of neutrals.
When it came to fabrics Chiang consistently utilized leather as a major part of her collection. Monika’s sporty collection was styled in an effortlessly cool way with baseball caps and light jackets pulling the looks together. This is a designer, I want to see more from.
What do you think of the collection?
