Since launching her line in 2000, fashion designer and creator Wenlan Chia, has expanded her line into a array of accessories, and recently published a pattern making book in 2009. Wenlan made her fashion week debut in 2003. This year, Twinkle By Wenlan executed the runway for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. The Promenade at Bryant Park was quite calm for the third day of MBFW, the room had tranquility, and set a tone. As soon as the show started, I grasped at Wenlan’s traditional, whimsical women’s ready to wear. The first ensemble was a signature charcoal grey knit sweater classically belted at the waist, continuing with a display of serene color pallets, including, navy, black, beige, olive, and a few splashes of red and purple. Twinkles Fall/Winter 2010 collection, consisted of silk high waist trousers, accompanied with asymmetrical silk blouses, black cocktail dresses, skirts with exaggerated hips, and jumpers with exposed zippers. Although the obvious inspiration was chic heavy knits, the collection had a very comfortable libidinous everyday look. There were silk baby doll dresses, paired with voguish black pumps, mode style dress paired with leggings, and a army inspired cow neck jacket in olive green. Throughout the show, I noticed a few familiar faces, sitting front row, Angela Simmons (Pastry) looking stunning in a fuchsia colored dress, Erin Lucas (MTV The Hills), and sitting quietly, taking in the the crowd was J. Alexander (America’s Next Top Model) in his simple routine attire, with a over sized chocolate colored fur bag. Twinkle by Wenlan presented a miraculous collection, displaying Wenlan Chia‘s customary knit designs, and adding gorgeous commonplace garments for the Fall/Winter season.
