Tommy Hilfiger channels Fall 2010 as PREPPY WITH A POP
Pantone, the primary forecasting company that decreed that turquoise is the color for 2010, and with that many permutations in the green spectrum has been resonating through many of the collections at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in tandem with the opposite end with shades of red poppy. This was evident in the Tommy Hilfiger collection which was the final showing at the Bryant Park tents before it bowed forever.
Never straying from the identity of the preppy collegiate, TOMMY HILFIGER, remained true to his identity with a smattering of the varsity cardigan; the pea coat; the trench coat; plaids, all the classics treated juxtaposed in unexpected textures. For instance red cashmere ribbed Henley paired with a floaty checked tulle dance skirt on the model, Irina K. –look 21- ; while Brittain –look 8- sported a red cashmere cable sweater under a mélange brown cashmere coat with the khaki hounds tooth wool pant finished the ensemble. The evening wear, almost included as an afterthought, morphed effortlessly with a couple of divine diaphanous silk grey jersey gowns with the girls and boys strutting to the house remix versions swinging from Taylor Swift’s LOVE STORY and U2’ s With or Without you.
Tommy Hilfiger was given an astounding ovation when he concluded by thanking Fern Mallis for providing a center stage for himself as well to the czars and the emerging talents of Seventh Avenue at Bryant Park and giving him a platform in the very beginning of his career and given such a privilege to end the long eighteen tradition with his collection while Alicia Keys EMPIRE STATE OF MIND serenading the end of an era.
