Since his debut as Lacoste’s creative director in 2002 Lemaire has been nothing if not consistent. Season after season he pushes the envelope creating a younger fresher Lacoste, while maintaining the integrity of the original line. Having been around since 1933 a renovation to entice younger customers and stay relevant was definitely in order but in no means a small feat. Providing innovation while keeping in line with a world recognized brand can be a daunting if not impossible task and Lemaire delivers, effortlessly.
As expected the pieces are sporty, complimentary and simply wearable. Though colorful Leggings and tights reigned supreme the women’s collection was balanced out by several roomy pant looks the highlight of which was a deep blue romper with a high neckline and bright red cummerbund. Not to be outdone by their female counterparts the men’s collection was awash in vibrant color. Bright slacks accompanied muted jackets and sweaters, which made for a smart sophisticated, youthful look. Though the men’s collection held noticeably fewer looks it was no less stylish than its female counterpart. Our favorite men’s look was the first to hit the runway, a tonal masterpiece made up of several layers. A ¾ length oversized overcoat, sweater, polo and a slack topped off with a matching Kangol style hat was the essence of sporty chic.
Lacoste once again presented a brilliant collection, of fun trendy and easy to wear pieces. An uncomplicated sporty approach to fashion has always been this house’s bread and butter, thank goodness Lemaire hasn’t forgotten this fact as he ushers in a new era of laid back cool. Its no wonder Lacoste’s world famous alligator appears to grin, with Lemaire at the helm I would be smiling too.
