These innovative designers offered a fresh perspective on design and offered the waiting public a glimpse of the direction of fashion. From futuristic to retro chic these designers offered a much needed boost to the creativity that the industry has been lacking in past few seasons. With many companies closing and others merging or watering down their collections for mass appeal, it was refreshing to witness the unveiling of the unique vision of an artist who creates for the sake of creation and not for the bottom line.
One of our favorite designers of the night was Steven Oo. Inspired by theArchitecture of Massimiliano Fuksas Steven presented an avant-garde knitwear collection full of complex and ornate fabric effects. The highlight of this collection was a black knit jacket with structured knit spikes along the collar and bodice, absolutely stunning.
We also loved the looks created by Bangalore India native Sabah Mansoor Husain. Her chandelier inspired collection was like a shimmering dream. Sabah even worked with an artisan in her native country to develop jewel shaped crystals that she embedded into her wool and mohair pieces. Lovely and modern, with just enough sparkle her ensembles were electric. We were simply in awe of the carefully crafted embellishment of each piece.
We applaud these new designers and welcome them into the world of fashion. Here’s to looking forward and moving onward. The February 13th 2010 show was just a small stepping stone in the road ahead for these new comers. I believe we can all look forward to seeing these new faces transform from fledglings to soaring successes.
Congratulations class of 2010.
