Until
Anticipation for the collection was growing thick as I watched the crewman create a gallant red patchwork runway with a large trapezoid mirror atop it. I had never seen such artistry before the garments even hit the runway. Suddenly all eyes rose to the back of the house…. the always eccentrically yet exquisitely dressed Andre Leon Tally arrived just in time to view the models walk through and rehearse his Phillip Lim introduction to the elite audience that included Bergdorf Goodmans Woman’s Fashion Director, Linda Fargo. Although Tally was a little under the weather, he pulled through the brief interview with Lim as only ALT could, wittily and full of fashionized- charm. As the Designer answered each question you couldn’t help but fall in love with his vision. His clothes within 400 boutiques around the world in 45 countries and two CFDA Awards under his belt, its no wonder he is one of the greats; within the fashion industry. When asked about the inspiration behind his 2010 spring collection. Lim responded, “My goal is to complete women, give them constant curiosity yet keep this mysterious”. It was amazing how his words translated into the looks.
First to hit the runway were statement-making lipstick red assembles. The lipstick belted double-breasted jacket paired with a simple mini short, lipstick bag and studded ankle boot; really set the tone of supreme femininity for the rest of the production. As more looks entered the tent, you could see a collage element forming. The colors, textures, and silhouettes were so varied, but some how made one complete story. You could actually compare his collection to the classic woman, so many pieces of a puzzle that can never be quite figured out, until the “A-HA” moment arrives. When describing his textures, he didn’t stray away from simple, yet he innovatively incorporated it. By applying overlays of oddly shaped organza, leather accents or oxidized sequins on a simply “Pretty Dress” Lim mysteriously made it into a pretty dangerous one. Although, there was a “Model Down Situation”, I believe it pushed the designer’s vision that much more. These clothes and accessories are for real women; sometimes women that can’t handle 7-inch spiked heels…but real women non-the-less!
It was clearly understood that Lim was pushing his simple, pure but modern agenda through this collection. He knows his customer and continues to delight us with his mystifying yet refreshing imagination. “Take a bow Phillip Lim”….until next season!

Great post, this collection was simple and chic, giving just enough classic style and modern day glam.
