Any hardcore fan of fashion week has a show they wait all season for. Whether its early in the morning or in some far off locale a true fanatic finds there way inside. For me that show is Malandrino. Season after season I look forward to her next offering, eagerly awaiting her drool-worthy creations. After last season’s showing at the Lincoln enter “lake” where the model’s stood atop marble pillars, I wondered how the designer would top such an amazing display. For Fall 2011 Malandrino chose a raw space in 229 West 43rd Street. Surrounded by large windows and awash in white paint, the minimalist decor set an almost invisible backdrop as the pieces took center stage. The models posed and preened on white boxes placed throughout the expansive space, creating rows of living sculptures draped in luxe fabrics. The palette for the fall featured rich emerald greens and deep shades of reds and purple. One of our favorite purple pieces was this “Viola” long dress with satin detail. The Men’s chapeau and basket weaved oxfords add an element of masculinity to this super feminine look. Another favorite Was this long-sleeved sweater dress. The intricate weaving details are a signature of the Malandrino style. You can never go wrong in basic black but there is nothing basic about this “Noir” polka dot embroidered fishnet dress. We adore the tilted cap and minimal accessories with this look. As always fashion fans can expect the best of Malandrino. Expert tailoring, intricate details, and sexy silhouettes are a minimum with this designer, as she continues to raise the bar in style one season at a time.
