The pizza in New York City is arguably some of the best in the world. When given the opportunity to attend a grand opening of the big apple’s latest pizza spot, we couldn’t resist. I headed down to the West Village to celebrate Made in New York Pizza‘s second location. The first is location is on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, this new spot is on Hudson Street between Perry and West 11 streets. The new location features a robust menu of pizzas in both traditional square pies and by the slice along with an impressive art collection of murals, NFTs, and graffiti art that celebrate NYC. It is owned and operated by restaurateur Eytan Sugarman in partnership with Chef Lou Tomczak formerly of Emmy Squared. Sugarman’s partners in the project include Gary Vaynerchuk, Guy Oseary, Ryan Tedder, and DJ Clue.
First impressions: The space was a vibe and took me back to my favorite era, the 80s. Eytan Sugarman added to the decor with his personal collection including a rare Bored Ape Yacht Club Ape and The Very, Very Very Lucky Black Cat, which are a part of the mural. The “A Love Letter To New York” mural-consisting of a full wall canvas work that encompasses hundreds of images of iconic people, moments, and images of NYC- was also on display for all to see. Images on it include famous sports moments, scenes from movies shot in NYC, NYC iconic artists like Basquiat, Warhol, Keith Haring, and LeRoy Neiman. The flooring is also a masterpiece to look at, it was completed in just under two weeks by artist Lord Henry.
Guests at the grand opening included DJ Clue, TV personalities Alicia Quarles and Valerie Greenberg, Broadway power couple Orfeh and Andy Karl, and many more.
The Pizza, The Pizza, The Pizza: My usual go-to is pepperoni but at Made In New York Pizza there is a Spicy Pepperoni that I just had to try and it didn’t disappoint. It was probably one of the best I’ve had in a long time. The thick crust went well with the slew of pepperoni, sauce, and that good old grease. The eatery also served up new specialties like The Drunken Grandma (grandma style square with fresh mozzarella, vodka sauce, fresh basil), Street Fair Square (sausage, shaved Vidalia onion, and chopped cherry pepper), and new Margherita (fresh tomato sauce, pecorino, stracciatella cheese, basil, and extra virgin olive oil). If you’re wondering, yes, they offer vegan options, made with Violife Cheese, including a cheese pie, a plant-based pepperoni pie, and a “vegan grandma” with hand-crushed plum tomatoes, fresh chopped garlic, and Sicilian Oregano. Overall, my heart is with the Spicy Pepperoni. It was so good, that I had to take two slices to go and have it for a late-night snack.
Made in New York Pizza is located at 561 Hudson Between West 11th and Perry; open from 12PM-12AM daily for take out, dine-in, and will also deliver. So you have no excuse to try this new gem.
