CMX Cinemas is taking luxury dining to a whole new level with their newest and first-ever New York City location. On Thursday, October 18th, CMX CinéBistro will open its doors to moviegoers at 400 East 62nd Street. Guests can expect CMX’s signature VIP movie-going experience along with fine-dining in comfort, thanks to their luxurious reclining love seats. The newly enhanced theater reflects a modern and minimalist design with rich textures and bold fixtures that embody the spirit and passion of a big city like Manhattan.
“New York’s newest one-stop-destination for entertainment, CMX CinéBistro’s intimate environment affords moviegoers the exclusive feeling of being in their very own screening room, complete with the luxurious comforts of top-notch service and superior cuisine and cocktails,” said Jose Leonardo Marti, CEO of CMX Cinemas.
Last night, we got a first look at CMX CinéBistro’s 45,500 sq. foot theater space. CMX renovated the six-story existing theater to complement the neighborhood and provide the community with a unique and intimate theater experience. Each level contains two auditoriums and immersive bars in the common areas. The theater has six auditoriums featuring the latest in projection technology, including a Dolby 7.1 sound system.
Ticketing
Like most theaters, tickets can be purchased online or in person via a kiosk or staff. Matinee tickets are $17 and regular tickets are $20. You can select your seat at the point of purchase. We watched “Solo: A Star Wars Story.” The process was easy and simple. After 6pm, all guests must be 21+.
The Auditorium
Upon arriving at the auditorium, we were greeted by the well-groomed theater attendances who ushered us to our seats. The reclining love seats are so comfortable, we unintentionally took a brief nap before our movie started. They are lush and have beautiful leather accents and footrests. There is a swivel table so you can enjoy your dinner and cocktails with ease. Besides the great seating, we loved that they’ve included USB outlets to charge your devices. Seating in each auditorium range from 46 to 64, so you won’t be bothered by overcrowding.
The attendant went over options for food and cocktails and even offered a few suggestions, which we found very helpful. Orders and payment are handled with the theater staff right from your seat. We recommend arriving 30-minutes early to ensure your order is ready and delivered before the movie starts.
Food + Cocktails
The chef-inspired menu items and handcrafted specialty cocktails are available in the theater as well as in the well-appointed bar and lounge area located on the basement and third-level floors. The menu was designed by CMX Cinemas’ Vice President of Culinary, Isaac Stewart. The menu puts a unique and artistic spin on classic dishes and cocktails. Some menu items include Lobster Cannoli, Moroccan Lamb Lollies, Chicken and Churros, and Strawberry-Mezcal Tres Leches and Smoke Bourbon.
We started with cocktails; 62nd Street Old Fashioned (Larceny Bourbon, Agave, Orange Cream Citrate, Peychaud’s Bitters) and the High Noon (Patron Siler, Grand Marnier, Fresh Limes, House-Made Sour Mix, Splash of OJ, Fleur De Sel Rim). Both were refreshing and strong enough to get us ready for a hearty meal. CMX puts a lot of effort into crafting beautiful cocktails and thankfully that did not take away from the flavors. These aren’t just pretty drinks, they actually taste really good.
For dinner, it was hard to settle on one thing because the options looked so delicious. We eventually chose the Hamachi Taquitos and Smoked Bacon from the Preview (or appetizer) menu. For the main course, we couldn’t resist the Spice Rubbed CAB Ribeye. The ribeye was extra juicy and flavorful. Cutting a steak during a movie is a whole new skill set for us. Make sure you’re up for the challenge before ordering. Pricing for food and drinks are on average for Manhattan. Cocktails are around $12-15 and entrees are between $21-39.
Overall
For our first CMX Cinema experience, our expectations were met. The cocktails and food items we tried were great and fulfilling. Being that this is CMX’ first venture into NYC territory, we wonder how service will keep up with the hustle and bustle of the big apple. Service in the theater wasn’t as fast as expected but we’re sure, it will get better.
Who is CMX CinéBistro for? Anyone looking to elevate their “dinner and a movie” experience. It’s a great place if you want to treat yourself, date night, or an outing with close friends. Would we go back? Absolutely! If you’re looking for a place to hang out and grab drinks before your movie, you can simply arrive much earlier and enjoy cocktails at one of the bars. They have a full bar with many options.
Since opening its first U.S. headquarters in Miami back in April 2017, CMX Cinemas has grown exponentially, opening new theaters across the country as well as acquiring other movie theater chains like Cobb Theaters and CinéBistro. These acquisitions have made CMX one of the largest movie theater chains in the country with 37 locations, 388 screens and 2,450 employees.
Experience it all for yourself as the new location opens tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 18th!
