Lovage is a swanky upscale lounge, with a fun laid back approach to nightlife. Located at 350 West 40th Street, just above Magnolia Restaurant, the lounge is just a few steps from the dazzling lights of Time Square on the 37th floor. Upon entry prepare yourself for the spectacle of the 17-foot floor to ceiling windows exposing the glorious New York skyline, On a clear night, you can see just almost all of New York’s most iconic structures, including lady liberty.
The ceiling is covered by a glass roof giving the illusion of the outdoors while safely tucked inside. The interior is filled with tactile velvet chairs and luxurious Christian Lacroix fabrics. The windows and roof, create a frame for a fabulous outdoor retreat, furnished with a fully stocked bar and plush seating. We headed to the venue on a Tuesday night for a quick night cap after a delicious dinner downstairs at Magnolia. The space was busy but not packed. We parked at a comfy couch near the windows to take in the beautiful crowd and ambiance.
The decor is rich and inviting. Plush couches outline the windows with cozy benches and colorful chairs strategically sprinkled throughout the space. We settled into one of the couches and were quickly approached by a friendly server. The waitstaff is decked out in little red dresses and all possess a fun outgoing nature which adds to the appeal. The cocktail menu is full of tropical themed beverages, made with fresh fruit and top shelf spirits. For a light sweet drink, we recommend the Kiwi Kolada, a sweet and sour version of a classic pina colada. Instead of the usual rum and pineapple, this drink is made with vodka and kiwi, with a touch of creme of coconut. While similar, this drink is lighter and less creamy than its predecessor. If you’re looking for something stronger look no further than the Cancun Swizzle, a heady mixture of Tequila, Disarrono Amaretto, and 151 Don Q Rum. This one is tasty and packs quite a punch.
Lovage’s cocktail menu is filled with modern twists on classic drinks. One of our favorites was their take on the traditional Bloody Mary. The Mahalo is a delectable mixture of mezcal and house made Bloody Mary Mix with a touch of jalapeno for a spicy little kick. It is a fun cocktail to try while enjoying New York City’s nightlife. The cup was absolutely festive as well.
We visited on a weeknight and found the place lively but not overflowing which is vastly different from weekends at Lovage Lounge & Rooftop. Friday and Saturday nights the venue is packed with party goers. With rooftop season quickly approaching, we are sure this lounge will be on everyone’s calendar. In addition to its daily service. the chic space can also be rented for your next big event. Visit LovageNYC.com for details.
