The earnestness is striking. Aspiring designers always talk about their passion for fashion and playing with dolls as a child, but the way Lorena talks about it comes off as endearing rather than cliché. She clearly puts every ounce of energy and love into her clothing and business, and it shows in her intricate garments.
The Sarbu woman is also a damn fox. And at first, I wanted to critique her collection for lacking cohesion, but it’s clear all these dresses would be worn by the same woman. Lorena herself and other women confident in the power of their femininity, not necessarily their only resource of course, don’t have closets that are tied together by one theme.
Lorena admits how personal this collection is to her in her blog, and this definitely shines though. Sometimes she wants to go to the club and be a bad girl…a couture bad girl. The red leather mini cocktail with a dozen of strips woven across it like belts and window cut outs framed with seed beads would be appropriate.
On the other hand a dinner date with a man she might actually be slightly intimidated by may require the black crepe cocktail dress with lace sleeves, back, and waist cut outs. Jet beaded appliqué flowers graze the shoulders to keep the girl jeweled.
Her red strapless corseted gown was meticulously pieced with half inch pleats. Equally detailed was the attached Cinderella tulled skirt complete with rows and rows of beaded scallops. This as well as the gold beaded long sleeve gown with black silk chiffon skirt would be perfect for any Oscar moment.
She of course also included a series of sparkling beaded gowns that fell and shined like liquid against the woman’s curves. This was particularly stunning in the cobalt and emerald and is becoming a signature of hers. This is another equally ideal look for the red carpet.
Just as Lorena Sarbu’s press release mentions, her collection was sewn together by, “the thread of impeccable attention to detail.” Of course this workmanship comes at a price. With gowns starting at about $3000, the other requirement and attribute of the Lorena Sarbu woman is a heavy bank account or someone who cares about her with one.
Appropriately, she has a bourgeoning celebrity clientele, which includes Emma Stone, Carrie Underwood, True Blood’s Kristin Bauer, Sophia Bush, and Glee’s Heather Morris. This sexy, wealthy, and decadent woman is the image little girls dream of becoming and admire. I imagine Lorena Sarbu was no different. Presenting at Lincoln Center is definitely that step forward Sarbu needs to maintain her luxury clientele.
