Last week, Levi’s invited a select group of fashion media to preview their Fall/Winter 2013 collection at Milk Studios the home of MADE Fashion Week. The Levi’s brand is as intertwined with Americana as Baseball & Apple Pie. This iconic brand is over 160 years old and is still manufacturing top of the line denim on the cutting edge of fashion.
The presentation included only a small sampling of each of the Levi’s Main and capsule collections. On display were pieces from Levi’s Made & Crafted, The Red Tab Line, Curve ID, and a new earth friendly line called Waste>Less made from recycled bottles and the Commuter Series. If I had to name a theme that went through the entire presentation it would be Bright & Bold and not just Jeans.
Levi’s Made & Crafted is not your granddad’s Levi’s. There really was not much denim in this grouping so much the better! There were pieces that were perfect for work and could transform with the right accessories for a night out. Many were reversible and featured bright linings that were made to be shown not hidden.
The Red Tab Line is inspired by a fusion of Japanese and Texan styles described as “Tokyo Texas”. The line brilliantly incorporates elements of traditional Japanese garments with American staples the perfect example is a denim jacket with kimono sleeves. I also loved the crane inspired blue and white dotted shirt.
Waste<Less is a continuation of their past collection Water<Less. Water<Less goal was water conservation. Waste< Less is all about sustainability. The technology takes recycled bottles, converts them into fiber and blends it with cotton to make Bright stylish clothing for everyday and anywhere. Sustainable clothes have come a long way since scratchy hemp cover-ups of the early ’90s. Also part of the Waste<Less line is the Commuter Series with jeans that feature reflective stripes on the inside; promotes cuffing and cycling safety.
The Curve ID line continues Levi’s commitment to making jeans for every figure. The Jeans were showcased on beautiful models with curves in all the right places. But I think of all the modern Levi’s lines I covet the Levi’s Main Line the most. It features 70’s Styling and contemporary cut colored jeans for Levi’s wardrobe that is so NOW.
