Due to the exciting results from last year’s New York Fashion Week, Leather Japan decided to hold another presentation for this season at Box at Lincoln Center on Wednesday, February 13th. Teaming up as Japan Leather Goods Development Committee, 8 leading dapper Japanese brands showcased their leather products.
When the guests entered the Box, there was a big cage filled with 10 wildly dressed musicians, playing dynamic music using Japanese traditional instruments along with modern music instruments. Around that stage, each brand’s leather goods were displayed handsomely.
Blackmeans is a crafted leather label, which was launched in 2008. The innovative techniques of Japanese craft-man ship is unconventional while keeping the traditional skills. The musicians were dressed in their garments playing their punk-based songs. The native inspired look was perfect for the band’s image.
Hender Scheme is a foot wear brand that was created to design freely without having to be bound by the gender stereotypes in society. The natural hue and smooth design were all stylish yet artistic. All the shoes by them are available for both men and women.
Kenji Amadana is a new type of bag brand that suggests the co-existence of electronics and fashion. Having a concept such as “Real Fashion But Electric Gear”, they achieved to design BAGTTERY, which is a chic totally wearable bag with a built-in battery that can charge 2.5 pieces of smart phones.
INI is a women’s foot wear line, which means I or We in Jamaican Patois. Creating the form of fashion that cannot be categorized; their designing has been edgy, unique and elegant. This season’s collection was filled with elegant yet strong heels with gold accent, studs and spikes.
e.m. was established in 1996 by a jewelry and interior designer duo. Themed for ‘creation for happiness’ and ‘creation of hasn’t been done’, the brand has been aiming to enchant You. For this season, they displayed their pieces with imitation crows, enhancing the edge and spark of the urban design of their leather accessories.
Genten is a genuine bag line, which featured their deep consideration for natural environment while creating their products with their skill-full craftsmanship. Their gratefulness to the natural material led them to design the items that can be loved and used for a very long time. For this presentation, they displayed their authentic shoulder bags with soil, grass and flowers to represent their philosophy.
Ed Robert Judson was created in 2009 with the idea of tools created by a fictional craftsman using the inspiration of everyday items. From wallets, card cases, key ring to bags, their merchandise heightens the sensitivity of those who touch the items. For this year’s presentation, they showcased their creation with stylish store-window-like arrangement.
Sasquatchfabrix. believes that the fashion movement reflects the social condition in the scene and ages, and it should be that way with cutting-age ideas. Expressing their personal vision is a key for their designing as well as their search for fashion with bona fide reality. They exhibited the art of layering, tailoring and original urban-guard silhouette that you cannot find in any other label.
