While booze doesn’t flow as freely at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week as it has in the past, Leather Japan wasn’t afraid to embrace an open bar outside their presentation upon entry.
Leather Japan 2012, a project organized by the Japan Leather Good Development Committee (Representative: Satoshi Okada/ President of the KUIPO CO., LTD.), was a committee established by a call of KUIPO. According to http://leatherjapan.jp, “Japanese leather goods businesses are behind in entering into the international markets. Therefore, the group was established to appeal about the Japanese leather fashion to the world.”
The collection, presented in a round and darkened space at the Box at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week on Monday, February 13, felt almost like you were in your own closet with models flanking each of the four corners who wore heelless platforms reminiscent of Lady Gaga. The platforms were from Noritaka Tatehana and made with environmentally friendly leather. The models and were displayed in a dramatic white light, while the handbag collection was displayed in the middle of the room, reminiscent of a museum exhibit.
The business operation is financially supported by The Ministry of Economy, Trade, and Industry (METI), an organization dedicated to global business activities for business owners who aim to enter the global markets, including shoes and leather products. Along with The Japan Fashion Week Organization (JFWO), JWFO organizes Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tokyo, so the implementation was done with support from this organization for the presentation.
The Fall 2012 collaborations were provided by four designers:
- Aguir Sagimori
- Sakaguchi Kosh for Blaze; also provided shoes for Koshi Sakaguchi
- “No, No, Yes! (Ready to Wear Taichiro Hashimoto)
