Philly Chase isn’t your typical new rapper his focus isn’t simply selling records its establishing a brand identity all his own. In the cookie cutter music industry he stands apart from his most immediate competition by offering an uncompromising approach to music. Defiant and unwilling to adhere to industry set forth standards of commercial appeal the rapper turned CEO is carving out his own niche in the urban music landscape. We were fortunate enough to snag a few moments of his very valuable time:
“Pac, Jay-Z, Lil Wayne.”
Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, I like pop too! And Nirvana definitely.
How do you balance running a business and establishing your career as an artist?
Being patient and just enjoying the process. Its not as hard as people think…talk to me in about a year when everything gets running and I may be saying something different! But for now just a lot of patience and taking things one step at a time.
I think its great because its a fresh start and gives us an entirely new perspective. People are already catching on to the dynamics and benefits of marketing virally and independently which puts independent artists in a more entrepreneurial space. So for me its great.
“Yes I would. That’s basically what it is now. The fans want to connect to the artist, they want to feel like they know you and are going through the same things as you. I would definitely do a show!”
“Get more involved with the viral market. For some reason, some people are just getting hip to the internets power. CDs will be obsolete soon, kids are on their ipods and iphones, so the artists need some more control and then the labels and them can all profit. But while they do these 360 deals where artists are in the red from day 1 then everyone suffers.”
As a Music executive, what do you look for in an artist?
“The first thing I would look for is that they are polished. Your product should be well put together. Present yourself properly. I need to see how we can both make money, is this artist more independent or self sufficient or is there a lot of development needed? That’s fine but I want someone who is ready.”
What’s one thing new artists should keep in mind when seeking a label?
“Its almost like trying to get in the NBA. Artists should take the power into their own hands, they have the power, they created the product. Market yourself, push yourself, invest in yourself and someone will recognize your work. But if you’re waiting for a hand out, waiting for Diddy to come to your house with a deal, then you’ll be waiting a long time.”
What is the one thing that would keep you from working with an artist?
“Somebody that doesn’t have the work ethic. I don’t like when artists think that they can just get in off your hard work. Put in your work, just because I have known you forever or you think your great doesn’t mean you are. I work like a dog, match my work ethic. Have some ambitions and goals.”
You’ve been rapping since the age of 12 what has changed in your music since then?
“Life. Life experience has changed. The way I was thinking at 12, 18, 21, 25 etc. I don’t even think the same, I’m wiser.”
What is your latest project and what can we expect?
“We got the mixtape coming out at the end of the summer. Then after that we are dropping a song every Monday on www.phillychase.com and an offical single coming later in the year!
This talented new comer isn’t simply chasing a dream so much as building an solid empire brick by brick. Compared to industry heavyweight and fellow entrepreneur Jay-Z, Philly has a long illustrious career ahead of him. In a relatively short time he has managed to spawn d a hit with Lady Gaga as well as have an original song used for a major motion picture. Philly is well on his way and what’s best of all he’s doing it his way on his terms, it really doesn’t get any better than that.

I’ve been working with Philly Chase for over 3 years, and his grind is like no one I have ever seen! I love his energy and his lyrics are amazing, and definitely original. He’s the next up mark my words, The world has been missing This type of Rapper, but they don’t have to wait much longer. #TEAMCHASE is on the rise!
