Last week, we descended on the Henri Bendel Flagship store in NYC as they played host to an ethical shopping event showcasing new arrivals from Same Sky Jewelry. During the event, Same Sky Bracelets presented their summer and resort collections in bright tribal colors like burnt orange, fuchsia, and Rainforest Green. The collection included new fabric bracelets ($30-$40), Prosperity seed bracelets ($60-$95), and Same Sky’s signature hand-blown glass beaded bracelets and necklaces ($160-$400). The artisans of Same Sky also have elegantly designed Men’s cufflinks that would look just as good in the boardroom or on the Red Carpet.
Same Sky is a trade-not-aid initiative that employs African women living with HIV/AIDS. These native African craftswomen are trained to make beautiful hand-made jewelry pieces to sell in the global marketplace. Same Sky began in 2009 with 4 artisans and now employs over 75 artisans in Rwanda and Zambia.
At the shopping event Same Sky founder Francine LeFrak was joined by, Miss USA 2012, Olivia Culpo. Same Sky’s jewelry has been worn by many celebrities including Meryl Streep, Alicia Keys, Queen Latifah and Goldie Hawn.
100% of all net-proceeds from the sale of Same Sky’s jewelry go to employing more women and expanding into other regions. This is true shopping for a cause at it’s finest.
