“I designed this project with myself in mind, like I design everything I do. I really personalize it and always ask myself ‘Would I wear that? Do I want that? Is this something I’ve been looking for for a while?’ It really is a personal process, but I’m a man designing menswear, so it’s as good a place to start as any,” said Michael Bastian.
The Michael Bastian x UNIQLO polo shirts will retail for $19.90 and launch May 20th. Michael Bastian recently sat down for a Q&A session to discuss the collection.
UNIQLO teamed up with 2013 Winner and 2013 Nominee for the CFDA’s Swarovski Award for Womenswear Suno as part of the lifewear brand’s Designer Invitation Project. This initiative allows designers from around the world to submit entry for possible brand collaboration.
The collection is inspired by Japanese Americana and features floral prints and stripes in styles that include sleeveless blouses, t-shirts, tank tops, dresses, skirts and jeans. “The inspiration for the collection was Japanese Americana – taking something that felt distinctly American, and then mixing it up in a SUNO way. We wanted to create something sweet, straight forward and easy,” said Erin Beatty.
Prices will range from $19.90 to $39.90 and will also launch on May 20th at all UNIQLO retail locations and www.uniqlo.com.
