On January 20th, 2013, HEINEKEN USA sponsored the second-ever Hip-Hop Inaugural Ball. Presented by Hip Hop Summit Action Network and Philanthropik.org, this event celebrated the hip-hop community’s active role in raising political awareness surrounding the 2012 Presidential Election. HEINEKEN USA proudly supports initiatives like this that empower consumers through experiences and inspires them to become more holistic men of the world.
Co-hosted by La La Anthony and Terrence J, the black-tie event joined together some of hip hop’s biggest celebrities in performance and celebration alongside event chair Zac McDaniels. Celebrities in attendance included: Swizz Beatz, John Legend, Victor Cruz, 2 Chainz, Marsha Ambrosius, MC Lyte, Doug E Fresh, Jadakiss, Brandy, Rosario Dawson, Angela Simmons, Tyson Beckford, Lance Gross, Tank, Raheem DeVaughn, Lil Mama LOS, 9th Wonder, Damien Escobar (Nuttin but Stringz), Charles “Roc” Dutton, Yo-Yo, Lady of Rage, and Smooth.
Hip hop pioneers MC Lyte and Doug E. Fresh were honored with lifetime achievement awards. Additionally, actress Rosario Dawson accepted an award on behalf of Voto Latino, recognizing the role the Hispanic/Latina hip-hop community played in galvanizing large numbers of Hispanics to vote.
Throughout the night, attendees danced to the sounds of DJ D-Nice and were treated to performances by Meek Mill, Wayne Brady, and Marsha Ambrosius.
The Hip Hop Inaugural Ball is a charity fundraiser with all ticket proceeds going to PHILANTHROPIK, a non-profit committed to supporting programs and initiatives that empower the community and inspire young people to be philanthropic.
