Founded by Mateo Muela Velasco in 1942, Mueloliva has become an award-winning international olive oil company. Today, they are still receiving awards and accolades, most recently receiving first prize for the fourth year in a row for “Venta del Barón” as the premier extra virgin olive oil worldwide at the Mario Solinas Quality Award Competition. Venta del Barón was also recognized by The Ministry of Agriculture for four years for the best virgin olive oil in Spain in the category of fruity, bitter, green oils.
With so much recognition over the past few years, we couldn’t wait to try the olive oil for ourselves. We headed to New York City’s West Village area for Mueloliva’s intimate celebration at the Sousa House, produced by Man-Laï Event Planning & Creative Marketing. Upon entry, guests were greeted by Rafael Muela and Mateo Muela and invited to indulge in a premier olive oil tasting. This helped us learn how to properly sample the olive oils and take in the range of flavors. The oils were quite delicious. To keep our palates abuzz, Chef KPE served up a hearty menu which included green tomato and olive oil whip gazpacho, jamón ibérico croquettes with Comté cheese, sliders with Manchego and chipotle glaze and liquid nitrogen olive oil ice-cream with olive oil powder.
Attendees also enjoyed the green apple cotton candy cava signature cocktail while listening to the sounds of Spanish band, PaperPlane. The night concluded with a toast from the Mueloliva team and goodie bags. Each guest went home with their own bottle of the award-winning olive oil. We personally are looking forward to cooking up a few delicious meals.
