New York Comic Con was over six weeks ago. Costumes have been shelved, new comics vacuum sealed and the Jacob Javits Center fully recovered from the insanity. The holidays are creeping up fast and with all the gift giving we are reminded of the many vendors we visited during the convention. Though Comic Con is a magnificent event for people watching, reviews and gaming it is also an intense shopping experience with vendors from all over the country, many of which we never knew existed. Though the thrill of shopping at the event itself has long passed we revisited some our favorite exhibitors online in search of a few great gifts for the nerds gamer and anime fans in our lives.
Martha Rotten: We were surprised to see a purveyor of fine jewelry at the convention but once we got a look at their wares we instantly understood. The pieces offered by the brand remind us of middle earth and Game of Thrones. There’s a regal but gothic theme to their handcrafted pewter pieces. You can visit their etsy shop and pick up something sexy for the medieval love of your life. Feel free to pick up something for us too, we love their skull pendants. MarthaRotten.com
Tiny Top Hat: Though you may have missed the chance to be sold a hat by a Mad Hatter at Comic Con, you can pick up a chic accessory or two via their online shop. We dropped by their booth and scored an amazing deal. With each hat purchase they were giving away an antique style pocket watch. The free gift was an exclusive Comic Con special. Don’t let the end of the bargain deter you these hats make an excellent gift for a steam punk enthusiast and anyone who owns a fascinator or two. The styles offered vary from punk rock to whimsical in a variety of colors and fabrications. TinyTopHats.com
Superhero Stuff: Just about everyone on the planet has a favorite super hero. Whether Marvel or DC this shop has what you need. At the convention this was one of the biggest and most popular booths its items ranged from simple tees and hoodies to housewares like glasses and mugs. In addition to its supple of super hero gear the retailer also offers items inspired by some of your favorite shows. We plan on gifting these Walking Dead Crossbow mugs to someone special really soon. SuperHeroStuff.com
Loot Crate: Can you imagine receiving a small gift of collectibles every single month? This was a popular booth at the event. It is a subscription service that sends subscribers a box of goodies every month. The loot offered changes every month and each box offers a unique collection of items that can include tees, figurines, key chains, and books. Each box has an estimated value of at least $45. This is an ideal gift for gamers and pop culture geeks. You can buy a gift subscription for one month, 3 months or up to a full year for a gift that keeps on giving. Check their website often for opportunities to purchase limited-edition boxes without having to subscribe. LootCrate.com
Anime Remix: Anime was immensely popular at the convention this year. There was a great deal of anime cosplay, unfortunately for super fans, cosplay rarely fits into our daily lives. Anime Remix offers more than a few fashionable but fun pieces to add a little more anime to your life. The anime lover in your life will go nuts for this Kigurumi. It’s like the world’s cutest adult onesies, perfect for a lazy afternoon binge watching Netflix or gaming on a favorite console. Anime-Remix.com
Metro Orange: This booth had one of the most amazing deals at the convention. Metro offers high quality prints of incredible art work. On their website, prints range from $10 to over $100. At Comic Con, they offered prints at a hefty discount of only $10 each with a buy two, get two free specials. It was unreal. We purchased a few to grace our walls but our favorite print is Gianlucca Mattias’ “Pig Cocktail” this piece really speaks to our love of bacon and all pork products. The art offered isn’t all dark and weird they also have some cool caricatures from artist Colin Lawler based on HBO’s Game of Thrones. I picked up “The Mighty Drago” for my sister she’s a big fan of the show. The prints are an ideal gift for your favorite art lovers. MetroOrangeArt.com
Comic Con will always be a highlight of the fall season; the pageantry, exclusive deals, celeb sightings and exhibitors provide a fabulous experience for all who attend. This was our second year attending. Last year we learned how to survive the sensory overload. This year we learned the art of the deal and the importance of visiting the exhibitors. By visiting the exhibitors you get a first-hand look at the quality of the items they offer online, so you know exactly what to expect when you order that exclusive piece. Thanks to Comic Con the super fans, geeks and nerds in our life will have a much happier Holiday season. For more info on New York Comic Con visit NewYorkComicCon.com.
