Our
Summer is almost upon us and despite the wettest April on record, women planning to hit the beach are going to have to spare 10 minutes to review their swimwear wardrobe.
We’ve been looking at tankinis and cover-ups available from Next and have picked out three looks that will have a high impact on the beach – as well as providing some versatility.
Scarf-print
1970s-inspired scarf prints are huge this spring/summer, not only in swimwear but on shirts and dresses as well. From booming sky blue, gold and white 1990s Versace-esque looks (see Jessie J on The Voice) to pinks and purples in paisley hippie fashion, it’s a key trend and surprisingly flattering,
This one-shoulder scarf print maxi dress (pictured) is a stunning beachside cover up for the matching tankini (or bikini) set. The mixed palette of colours and long length skirt make it a brilliant matching item – golds, pinks, reds, purples and even creams will work well underneath. What is more, the glamour of the cut, with a slit leg and one-shoulder gather, translate very well into the evening, meaning you can wear this as your go-to holiday dress.
Sports luxe: sequins and colour-blocking
For a super-high-end luxury yet sporty feel, this sequin cover up (pictured) from Next is the real deal – its loose, easy-fit T-shirt style makes it simple to wear (and easy to pop over jeans and sandals when you’re in colder climes too), covering up any look beneath. We think this is great for capturing a bit of Olympics-inspired sporty colour and shape alongside some ultra-feminine, partygirl detailing. Again – we could see it dressed up with chunky heels for a dancing; excellent for the young and young at heart.
Delicate fabrics and detail
Despite the bright prints and sequins above, simplicity is another key trend which has overwhelmed fashion in the face of the recession. Clean colours, quality fabrics and long-lasting styles and shapes are once more the cornerstone of British dressing, and this simple black ruched kaftan (pictured) is a case in point. Ultra-feminine, a flattering cut with emphasis on chest and minimizing waist, this is a wonderful slip-on for wandering up to the bar.
