Hearing loss is a very real threat affecting many Americans each year. For some it is a genetic condition, for others a degenerative disorder following old age, for even more it is the culmination for years of poor ear health. I like most spend a great deal of my day with headphones blaring in my ears. The tones of my favorite tunes used to block out the noise of the bustling city, and like many it never occurs to me to have my hearing checked. Regrettably ear screenings fall well below most of our radars until it is too late. The hearing health foundation works tirelessly to find causes, cures and treatments for hearing loss. At the very top of their list of initiatives is preventative health, or finding a way to educate the masses in ear health and longevity. As with all research, funding is Key. Team JSD was invited to the Annual HHF fundraiser Monday night.
The soiree was a light affair filled with delectable edibles and complimentary cocktails. We milled throughout the crowd surrounded by socialites, philanthropists entertainers and scientists, all of which came out to lend their support to the worthy cause. In addition to purchasing tickets, guests were invited to bid on silent auction items which included exotic vacations, show tickets and autographed memorabilia. The “Celebrating The Senses” reception is follows the consumer focused conference, “Summit 2011: The Promise of Cell Regeneration” which was open to the public and featured a discussion on current research and scientific breakthroughs in hearing restoration. Guests of the reception were also treated to the sounds of the beautiful Shontelle. As a champion for many causes Shontelle lent her melodious voice to the event, belting out 2 great songs before mingling with the crowd. Her voice filled the high ceilings of the venue, leaving spectators grateful for having the ability to hear her powerful ballads. A great night to say the least, the event is not the end of HHF’s funding, there is always room for more. To find out how you can help, please visit www.drf.org
