Spike Lee, the award winning filmmaker behind such hits as Mo’
Get ready to feel old, did you know Lee’s groundbreaking film Do The Right Thing was released 25 years ago? Yeah me either. Time sure does fly but this classic film launched the careers of so many actors who we love a cherish. Guests were treated to a new film which documented the making of Do The Right Thing. In “Making Do the Right Thing,” viewers get a rare glimpse behind the camera, including table readings, building of sets, frustration from Brooklynites, and my favorite, candid moments with the late and great Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis.
After the screening, AJ Calloway moderated a special Q&A with Spike Lee & Kehinde Wiley. Lee reminisced about how the documentary reminded him about his time on set and working with Ruby Dee and Ossie Davis. Kehinde Wiley spoke about his inspiration about his portrait, which he later revealed.
After the unveiling and toasting Mr. Lee, guests filled the Crosby Street Hotel to party the night away with cocktails and lite bites. One noticeably popular cocktail was the Melon Mulem which is a new twist on a classic Moscow Mule.
The liquid dream is a perfect blend of sweet Cavaillon melons and the rich spice of ginger beer, served deliciously chilled in a copper cup. Perfect for the summer and so simple to make, the Melon Mule is made with 1 1/2 parts GREY GOOSE Le Melon, three parts ginger beer and three lime wedges.
Legendary MC, Q-Tip provided the tunes which kept guests grooving for well over two hours. Spotted amongst partygoers were Victor Cruz, Michael Ealy, Michael K. Williams, Jonathan Mannion, Caroline Rhea, Theodora Richards, Danny Aiello, Gregg Bello, A-Trak, Jus Ske, Luis Ramos, and much more. Over it was a great evening and we cannot wait to see what Wiley does next.
