Foodies in all stages should at some point make a pilgrimage to a local food festival. These events provide an entry way into the kitchens of some of the best eateries most of which are right in your back yard. Just a few short days ago we spent a glorious afternoon in an approximation of foodie heaven, the Greenwich Food and Wine Festival. The annual 3-day event began last Thursday with an “Ultimate Wine Evening” followed by a “Grand Tasting” on Friday and ending on Saturday with the “Food and Wine Festival”. We opted to visit on Saturday to partake of the many offerings. The slightly damp day was a minor player in what was an exquisite day of dine foods and premium spirits. Guests of the festival were invited to tour the culinary village which housed a few dozen vendors all of whom were ready to offer a sample of their best dishes or drinks. Though many were visited a few of our stand out vendors include:
Bistro Latino- Their scallops were prepared on the spot, lightly drizzled with sauce and laid on a bed of avocado.
BLT Steak– A delicious flank steak cooked to perfection topped with herbs and toasted bread crumbs
Morello– This lovely Italian staple offered pasta in meat sauce as well as a delicious butternut squash ravioli.
China White– Traditional Asian fare isn’t always easy to come by and China White pays homage to the simplicity of the cuisine and offers fresh noodles served chilled and a fresh chicken salad in a sesame dressing.
Pinch– This New York eatery brought its finest seafood dishes which included a modern take on the traditional shrimp cocktail as well as a delicious salmon and egg sandwich.
Plum– This isn’t your grandma’s pot pie, Plum served up a divine bread bowl filled with a savory duck stew.
Rizzuto’s Pork lovers must visit Rizzuto’s for a taste of their perfectly prepared roasted pork, simply amazing!
In addition to the amazing edibles offered within the tents, guests also ventured out into neighboring tents for demonstrations by celebrity chefs as well as an outdoor BBQ featuring vendors Dinosaur BBQ and Preppy Pig to name a couple. As the day wore on the excitement never died as participants still had the burger battle, featuring some of the tri-state area’s best burgers as well as live entertainment, musical guests Will Hoge, The Felice Brothers and headliner Gregg Allman with his band. A grand day, to say the least, we look forward to next year’s event. Though the festival is once a year the vendors cook up great food year-round, you may have missed this year’s festival but you don’t have to miss out on great food.
The Festival was presented by Serendipity Magazine that benefits The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp.
