Georges Chakra truly knows how to make a woman feel glamorous.
Showing his fourth collection at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, the veteran of dressing Hollywood celebs debuted his Spring / Summer 2011 collection filled with alluring silhouettes and designs that can appeal to women of different tastes – a skill that takes many years to master. With that in mind, Chakra was able to capture the general theme of the collection: a celebration of the female form.
While the overall looks may look simple to the naked eye, a closer look shows that Chakra inserted creative details by using draping, braiding, wrapping, and crisscrossing to come out with something more inventive. One of the key looks from the collection that showcased his creativity was a purple charmeuse gown that had a basket-weave corset and a caged neckline.
Chakra’s specialty of course, was his gowns – which sums up most of his collection.
While the gowns weren’t overly intricate, they were nothing short of glitz and glamour with embellishments to make the dresses red-carpet friendly. Encrusted with jewels and crystals, much of the primarily silk dresses were splashed with ombre shades of aqua blue, neon yellow, and purple. Much of his dresses featured a low-back cut that Chakra says is “sexy, and if you can wear it, it will be phenomenal.”
One downside, however, was that some dresses just had too many crystals put on a bright color that it made the dress look a bit tacky. Some other dresses were just body-hugging satin that made it look, simply put, cheap.
But the truly best part of the collection was that Chakra had designs to cater to different styles – the short, asymmetrical neckline black dress may appeal to a woman with a rocker’s edge, while the long, flowy silk dresses are suited for a sexy and confident woman who loves luxury and glam.
It is well known that Chakra is popular for dressing celebrities’ because of his knack for feminine flair, and this collection affirms that his dresses and his name will surely be heard more as the celebrities come down the carpet in the upcoming awards season.
