Overall: A cozy fast-food eatery with a chef-driven menu of tasty treats.ย The space may be small but the flavors are big, bold, and sure to please.
In 2017, Fry lovers McKenzie Foster and Marco Lanuto turned their mutual love of fried spuds into a unique business venture. Their fast-casual establishment turns our favorite side into a full meal. At FryGuys, fries are only the start. You can choose from curly fries, straight cut, or tots. Next, you can cover them in an assortment of toppings and sauces including fried chicken, bacon, and of course creamy cheese sauce. Open until 4amย on the Fridays and Saturdays, the restaurant is a favorite after-hours spot for locals and party goers. After a month of renovations, the original East Village location is back in business with a new look and a few new items. The new menu items include sandwiches and a rotating mix of local brews. For our visit, we skipped the weekend rush and dropped by on a weeknight for some good food and a peek at the new look. The renovation opened up the space increasing the kitchen size and adding additional seating to the cozy eatery. Fans will also note the colorful mural has been replaced with mirrored tiles that give the illusion of more space. Let’s check out the menu, shall we?
Drunk Guy
Crispy fries are topped with gooey cheese sauce, bacon, and guacamole for a fun messy meal. As the name suggests, this is perfect for a late night bite and just like a drunk guy,ย it’s a bit messy but still a good time.ย The cheese sauce is a unique house blend of several kinds of cheese.
The Fry Guy
If you love barbecue as much as we do, the fry guy is right up your alley. The pulled pork is tender and well-seasoned. The barbecue sauce is smoky and sweet with a peppery kick.
Poutine
Poutine is a popular Canadian treat made of French Fries topped with brown gravy and cheese curds. This rendition features a house made maple gravy that adds a bit of sweetness to the savory fries and cheese curds. We took it over the top and added a little bit of salt, by adding a helping of crispy bacon to the top. Bacon makes everything better!
Mac Nโ Pork
The Mac and Pork are one of the newer items and a filling favorite. The same tender juicy pork from the Fry Guy is put on a buttery soft bun then topped with creamy gooey mac and cheese. This is beyond a two-handed Sammy, this needs a knife and fork.
Capโn Crunch and BamBam
If super loaded fries arenโt enough for you, wash it down with one of their inventive milkshakes. The Cap Nโ Crunch and BamBam evoke memories of Saturday morning cartoons and other fond childhood memories.ย The Cap Nโ Crunchย is made with vanilla ice cream and peanut butter topped with captain crunch cereal. The BamBam features vanilla ice cream as well with a tart berry drizzle.
The items we chose are only a few of theย combinations offered at FryGuys. We chose our items directly from the menu but you may choose any combination of their many sauces and toppings, the possibilities are endless!
