Ever since we first saw her “Pokerface”, Stefani
Our fair Lady arrived in this Alexander McQueen couture gown with gilded feather head piece and tulle underskirt. The late designer who took his own life last year was an innovator who often played with print and defied convention, his pairing with Gaga was a match made in fashion heaven. From the headdress to the shoes McQueen was a creator of wearable art pieces, transforming the wearer into a breathing masterpiece.
The second ensemble of the evening was created by the house of Armani. Made up entirely of black leather and featuring a spiked headdress and coned bodice this dress is a major departure from Armani’s more demure items. Headdress and bodice aside the consumption of fabric on this piece is astonishing.
Last but certainly the most photographed and arguably the most controversial of her pieces was the Franc Fernandez “Meat Dress”. Preceded by a meat bikini worn for the cover of “Vogue Hommes: Japan, this ensemble included meat boots, head piece and even a meat purse. Fernandez proudly displays his work on his Blog. Though a bit disturbing, you can not deny the ingenuity behind creating a garment entirely of meat. How different is it than leather or even fur?
Whether you love her or hate her Gaga is the embodiment of creativity and talent with the potential to launch new ventures in fashion as well as inspire current masters to create works above and beyond even their own expectations.
