Last week’s DIFFA event was an amazing charity event which raised funds for AIDS research. The installments prepared for the evening were created by an eclectic mix of interior designers who worked hard to create fanciful and chic dining experiences. Each of the setups had a unique personality all its own and will likely inspire more than a few attendees to spruce up their homes. Though many were presented here are our favorite personalities:
The Rock Star: Colorful streamers hang like fringe in this Jes Gordon creation. You can re-create this look with a striped wall paper or painting. For the table add an element of creativity and allow guests to contribute some words of their own to a custom centerpiece or directly on the table top in permanent marker. Remember to add lots of chairs and space for your entourage as well as eye-catching flatware to keep the good times rolling.
The Drama Queen: A black crystal chandelier hangs beautifully over this black lacquer table setting. The marble table top and golden plates add a decadent bit of shine over all. To increase the drama factor opt for a bigger more lush seat at the head of the table to remind guests who the person of honor is or simply to sit and survey your loyal subjects.
The Adventurer: The African safari gets a much-needed update in this modern setting. The print table runner gives the clean white table top an exciting splash of color and texture. Keep things fun and colorful by adding table setting in the contrasting colors of the print. Add a brightly hued charger beneath the dinner plates for an extra boost of color.
The Artist: Instead of the typical floral arrangement opt for a small sculpture. The right piece will reflect your overall style and taste level without blocking your guests view of each other. This type of centerpiece works best with a round tabletop as it gives each guests a n equal view of the piece from different angles
The Romantic: Is there anything more romantic than the calming waters of the ocean? Invite dinner guests into an under water feast for the eyes and senses. A glass table top and clear plastic chairs give the illusion of dining on water. Lush green plants and baubles mimic the ocean floor for an added element of whimsy.
The Golden Girl: Who says you have to be a retiree to appreciate the beauty of Miami. No matter the weather a bright white table dressed in a mixture of pastels and brights gives the illusion of fun in the sun. A bouquet of fresh-cut flowers in a vibrant color adds to this effect. Keep the colors in this style simple and to a minimum. The colors used should be complimentary with one accent color for added interest.
The Activist: Though it may not be practical to hire models to stand atop your table as living centerpieces, it is always fashionable to stick to your convictions and take pride in your beliefs. dress your table with something uniquely you that not only stirs up a conversation but makes a powerful statement. As an added bonus use a small platform to raise your center piece into your guests line of sight increasing its visibility and impact.
The New Yorker: Whether a native or a visitor celebrate the big apple with a roof top setting. Full digital wall paper may not be in your budget but a city scape picture can be just as effective, in creating a city scape all your own.
Though DIFFA’s Dining by Design has left NY it will be touring the country popping in cities across the nation. For a complete itinerary and other ways you can support the cause please visit www.DIFFA.org
