Housing Works presented “Fashion for Action”. A charitable silent auction event to raise funds for housing, food, medical aid, job training and HIV prevention for more than 20,000 homeless and low-income New Yorkers living with HIV and AIDS. This four day event is sponsored by Co-chair Derek Lam, Olivia Palermo, HBO, Gilt and Essence Magazine.
The night was hosted at the architecturally beautiful Rubin Museum of Art in lower Manhattan. The space was not only wall to wall with worldly artifacts and sculptures, but the art of fashion. Decedent pieces were donated for the special occasion such as; the fabulous Gucci Pelham clutch, DVF platform shoes, amazing black jeweled stam Marc Jacob bag with patent wallet, Tory Burch sweater dress, Ralph Lauren Bag, and so much more. Over 150 more Designer’s showed their love and support by donating $1 million dollars worth of commodities. The guests were in a frenzy to get their bids in for the lavish items.
Complete open bar with delicious hand passed Hors d’œuvre’s by “The House Catering” really added a touch of exclusive appreciation to all invited guest and press. DJ Christopher Sealey kept the atmosphere delightfully rocking; playing hits from Gaga to MJ. There was no doubt; this fabulous crowd was overjoyed supporting such a great organization and doing so by; attending a fabulous party. Even more importantly, the cause of the night was never lost, but reiterated with every bid and every individual who became a Housing Works Member that night.
After the winners were announced, I made my way over the infamous shopping event, going on in the Housing Works store. Can I just say…. “Retail heaven”! Ralph, Jacobs, Lacroix, Chanel, BCBG, were all out to play and not at their usual prices; let me tell you. It was a night of exciting shopping from the store to the marvelous soiree across the street. I tip my designer fedora hat to Housing Works for putting on; yet another successful event!
