FACE Africa hosted its 5th Annual WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) Gala at Chelsea Piers located in New York City. The non-profit organization supports sustainable clean water, sanitation and hygiene projects in sub-Saharan Africa. At the gala, philanthropist and tastemakers gathered to support the worthy charity by bidding on premium auction items during both the silent and live auction, as well as making other monetary donations.
Throughout the evening, guests enjoyed a cocktail reception which featured a premium bar, soothing music, and delicious food.
FACE Africa’s mission is to make clean water a reality, one community at a time. It’s founder and Executive Director, Saran Kaba Jones launched Face Africa in January of 2009. The organization has raised over $250,000 for clean water projects in Liberia. In recognition of her commitment to clean water initiatives that benefited over 10,000 residents in Liberia to date, Saran was recently appointed Goodwill Ambassador for the county of River Cess, Liberia. Most recently, Jones was recently named a 2013 World Economic Forum Young Global Leader. We got a chance to speak with her about the organization, FACE Africa’s Indiegogo partnership, and much more.

In most African societies, women are seen as the collectors, managers, and guardians of Water. Women spend around 60% of their day collecting water, and a decrease in the amount of time available for education, income-generating activities, house-work or childcare. Those reasons alone should encourage you to get involved in this heart felt charitable organization. Please visit FACEAfrica.org for more information.
