During
Fraser-Swan’s Fall 2012 collection was heavily influenced by the 1940’s and the United States’ burgeoning manufacturing economy, a result of increased production during World War II. As men went to war, women went to the factories and fashion responded to this change by transitioning from a feminine to functional uniform for women. For the first time, tailored trousers, instead of a full skirt, were an acceptable option for everyday attire.
With the 1940’s styling and history in mind, the EMERSON Fall 2012 collection featured boxy jackets and neoprene sailor pants, but each look had a feminine flair, such as a silk blouse, lace detail or a muted floral print. The color palette of this collection—charcoal, eggplant, black—was offset by pops of champagne, lime and purple. The hair—sultry, wavy curls—was reminiscent of the 1940’s, but black matte lipstick and minimalist makeup transformed the look from prissy to tough.
The best outfit in this collection appeared early in the presentation: a graphic, printed ombre wool cropped jacket and culottes suit in charcoal grey.
