Using all the tools like leather, fur, metallic, tweed and other popular trends seen throughout this season’s Fall/Winter 2013 runway collections, Jackie Fraser-Swan embodied the modern contemporary woman and brought the “runway to real way” concept very much to life.
The collection, named after her inspiration, Ralph Waldo-Emerson, offered sleeveless turtlenecks, printed blouses, vests and overalls, realized in a skirt. Purples, yellows and blacks dotted the collection, though maroon was really the standout and unifying color.
Fraser-Swan’s pieces realized all occasions from casual meets rock with looks such as a hooded long zipper dress to business glam with tweed suits. She also used girly Peter pan collars on blouses layered under a series of dresses, and to push the envelope a little, some sheer paneling cut-outs on several garments. Many of her looks were paired with the ever-popular leather leggings that gave an edge to more of the feminine looks with the brighter colors in the collection.
She closed the show with a range of one shoulder dresses with long, sweeping skirts that gave the collection an ethereal feel to show all the ways the modern woman wants to dress. And no one in the audience could resist her bow where she hugged her two children on the runway (she almost missed due to travel delays). Before the show began, Kelly Cutrone of People’s Revolution said to the audience, “I promise this is not a PR stunt, but is everyone okay with waiting for Jackie and her husband? They are at Penn Station now and we don’t want her to miss her show.” A sweet moment in an otherwise rushed week.
