French-born Elie Kuame turned the idea of Fall/Winter on its head with his collection featuring shorts, sweeping skirts, sleeveless dresses and other atypical Fall/Winter colors of whites, yellows and emeralds. In what would typically be identified as a resort collection with these types of colors, and use of sheer blouses, halter dresses and short sets, the collection was unified with earthy, tribal prints throughout.

Each model entered the space which was set up in a horseshoe style runway with stairs leading to the runway for dramatic entrance. To complement each look, the models wore dual colored stilettos with messy, funky up-dos to complement the designs. Kuame closed out the show in equally dramatic fashion, walking the runway with his two final models to Whitney Houston’s “One Moment in Time.”
Tai Chunn, owner and producer of MVC Management Productions who produced the show, announced it as Fashion Week’s first show produced by an all African-American staff. Chunn also used the occasion to award his mother Cynthia Chunn for her dedication and support of the MVC Foundation, created in honor of his sister Monique Vanessa Chunn.
